DND Next: Online only interaction...User Friendly?

Hello Fellow Gamers,

DND next is now in its playtest stages. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/DnDNext.aspx <------link here. This is a time for celebration/hatred celebration for all. DND Next is another move towards in my estimation, a society completely jacked in to the internet. As this happens we must take a step back and ask...is this a good thing? Listen its not like I am some old geezer, sitting back and saying "get off my lawn, but are we really ready for our information to be online only accessible. Do you really want to go to your local game shop that may or may not have internet access only to not be able to access it? Or worse yet not get a patch that completely changed your character? That's like logging in to an MMORPG and only playing the original unpatched game. It does not make sense to me as a player. An online only copy  seems foreign to me as yet. If your the type of person who plays house rules is there any wiggle room for "off numbers" by the standards of the program? I favored the off/on-line version of character builder, because it gave you choice. This iteration does not, your a subscriber or you don't get the software. That is rough, much like the MMORPG's of today if you can't pay, you can't play. I don't personally think that DND should be grouped that category.
We all have borrowed a book from friends to play a character or scenario we wanted. Well at least to my knowledge, in this "Next" age, if your going to play it's a buy your own mentality. We are all "broke" at one point or another, so ask yourself...is this cool with me?
Anyways that's enough babbling from me.
Tune in next week for our New episode since my computer crashed.
See you soon,
Andrew
