Hello coconut flavored readers,
We all fall into our favorites. If you like Call of Duty, you are going to buy COD 4 and then Black OPS. In that same vein we all stick to either DND, Vampire, or the RPG that your friends play most often. And even more pointedly, the same version. But I like the experimentation of different systems. Like for example, BESM (Big Eyes Small Mouth) which is a game that utilizes different elements to make up an RPG. Instead of "rolling" a good amount you instead talk a lot more. Sure, there are your battle scenes, but it seems to pull you towards RPing a lot more than DND would necessarily do as a on it's own system. Now granted group dynamics has a lot to do with how you play an RPG, but I do believe that a system can gear itself towards encouraging it's players to RPing. You are going to find systems like the Star Trek RPG, where Ship Battles are a whole session of play, but I think more often than not, you will find a good system. Their are so many creative people out there that they can't all be no talent hacks. As I consistently stress on the podcast is have a good DM. If your DM is a bad player than your gonna have a bad game as well. The story is at the heart of every RPG game. You can have an amazing system, but any terrible DM can ruin your experience by making bad game style choices. So go out and experience new systems. Start with Vampire, for a really intense story RPG.
